No reason why Hadi cannot be challenged -Dr Mujahid

GEORGE TOWN: No one can stop a member from contesting the PAS president’s post, said the party’s national unity bureau chief Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

“Challenging the president is not against the party’s constitution. I do not agree that challenging the post would cause the party to split.
“It should not be a reason to let the post go uncontested. It has been a long time since the PAS presidency was challenged,” he told reporters.

PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang has never been challenged since he took over the position in 2002 from Datuk Fadzil Noor who died of a heart attack.
Dr Mujahid said there would always be a tussle between factions at every party election.

“I hope whichever faction that wants to compete for positions will do it in a democratic way.
“Avoid using character assassination, labelling, provocation and the worst of all, physical action,” he added.

Last month, PAS central committee member Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli’s car was torched outside his residence in Hulu Kelang.
On Thursday, central committee member Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad was assaulted outside his house after the Subuh prayers.
